Our Phlebotomists are some of the most important people working at MEDLAB today. As one of them, you are the primary contact with our patients. Working independently, you’ll be assigned to a set of long-term care facilities, visiting them daily for draws or other sample retrieval and operating with the autonomy many Phlebotomists say is key to successfully administering their skills among their patients (Within our Terre Haute facility, Phlebotomists work within the hospital with inpatients.)
We also offer career opportunities for Phlebotomists interested in working on-site and performing draws for patients at physician offices or Patient Service Centers (PSCs).

Requirements
As a member of the medical care team, phlebotomists are expected to have solid skills with blood draws, as well as strong communication skills to ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible. An attention to detail, understanding and adherences to Universal Precautions, blood borne pathogen & infection control procedures and specimen transport and maintenance procedures is essential to your success. Phlebotomists are also expected to accession the samples once they return to the laboratory so they are ready for processing in the laboratory.
At MEDLAB, we require phlebotomists to have a high school diploma and/or Medical Assisting Certification with at least one year of clinical phlebotomy experience. In most of our facilities, former experience working in long term care facilities is highly desirable. Phlebotomists who are assigned to visiting facilities must have a valid driver’s license, as well as their own reliable transportation and automobile insurance. The position requires excellent organizational and technical skills, strong interpersonal talent to interface effectively with clients, management and office staff, and high levels of courtesy, tact and professionalism.
A small number of positions are sometimes available within Patient Service Centers (PSC) located in doctor’s offices or medical office buildings. Advancement opportunities for phlebotomists include moving into lead or supervisory roles, client relations or laboratory technician positions.
