The very first acquisition by MEDLAB was the Terre Haute Medical Laboratory (THML) in western Indiana. For over sixty years, this laboratory has been providing clinical laboratory services to the residents of the Wabash Valley of Indiana. The main laboratory is located within Union Hospital, where services are provided to the acute care hospital patients as well as those patients and clients of our outreach program (nursing homes, physician offices). Services offered by the laboratory include testing in the areas of microbiology, chemistry, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, electrophoresis, urinalysis, toxicology and molecular diagnostics. Over 1.25 million clinical laboratory tests are processed and analyzed here per year.
MEDLAB – Terre Haute also has a full anatomic laboratory to provide histology and cytology testing for the MEDLAB organization. These services include gynecologic cytology analysis using the Thin Prep imaging system, non-gynecologic and body fluid cytology as well as tissue pathology. Pathology consultative services and oversight of the clinical laboratory are provided by Pathology Associates of Terre Haute (PATH). The anatomic pathology service reviews over 20,000 surgical cases 21,000 gynecologic cytologies, 1,300 non-gynecologic cytologies, 300 bone marrows, 400 fine needle biopsies and 139 consultations.
Additional laboratory services are provided at an associated hospital, West Central Community Hospital, as well as a number of rapid response labs scattered from central Illinois to Indianapolis. Some of our larger rapid response labs are associated with large physician practices and rural critical access hospitals including Associated Physicians & Surgeons Clinics, Hux Cancer Center, Union Hospital Family Practice Center, Cork Medical Center in Marshall, IL and Clay City Center for Family Medicine.
MEDLAB – Terre Haute and PATH are both accredited by the College of American Pathology (CAP), a CLIA-certified agency.
